Rob arrived in Fernie on a quest for bottomless powder. He found it. Plus a home, a career and a community.
Rob started working with us in the Spring of 2005. He quickly discovered a passion for carpentry, and followed through with four years of trade school at College of The Rockies. He is now an experienced, certified Red Seal Carpenter, with extensive knowledge of how to craft a beautiful custom home.
In his spare time, Rob still seeks out deep powder stashes – on his sled and with his snowboard. Summer days are spent fly fishing, hiking, and seeing the world through the eyes of his first child.
Darla started out as an East Coast girl. In 1983, she moved west with her family to settle in the Elk Valley. She quickly fell in love with the active, outdoor lifestyle. Fernie became home, a grateful place to live, work and play.
Darla raised three children, owned and operated 2 businesses before joining Elk River Mountain Homes. “I work with such a talented and diverse group of individuals. And, I get to be part of amazing projects,” she says, “ I look forward to coming to work every day.”
Building Envelope Foreman
Tyler is a seasoned Canadian Red Seal carpenter. His professional experience includes cribbing, timber framing, conventional framing, log structures, roofing and exterior finishing, as well as building envelopes, waterproofing and rigging.
Tyler is an especially-good problem solver who enjoys a challenge. Maybe that is why we often see him single-handedly lifting heavy objects on job sites.
Outside of work, you’ll find Tyler on a mountain slope, or obsessively river fishing. He and his wife are the happy parents of two humans and two dogs. Tyler’s advice: “Let your imagination be limitless and let quality guide you.”
Possibly the best way we can explain Steven is to say, “Probably wouldn’t fit in at a high society function, but he can sure swing a hammer.”
When Steven is not at work, he is out climbing mountains, making powder turns, or on horseback exploring new trails through the Canadian Rockies. Oh, and cruising it on a skate ramp!
Originally from Sydney, Australia. Matt began working as a carpenter in 2008. A few years later, he and girlfriend moved to Fernie for “just one ski season”.
Years, a house, a dog and a son later, Matt and his girlfriend (now wife) are still here, enjoying their Elk Valley river and mountain life.
Marie has lived in the Elk Valley since 1978. She raised her three children here, and is a new grandma.
Marie started working with us in 2019. Her attention to detail, and willingness to pitch in and help out beyond the books, are welcome attributes. Her favourite part of the job? “ My coworkers. We are a fun group to be around.”
When it is time to play, Marie loves softball, mudbogging – try it sometime! – and spending time with family and friends.
Chief Broom Pusher
Our founder and visionary, David, oversees every client project we undertake. He leads by example, sets the bar high and helps us all reach it.
Fly-fishing and family, backcountry sledding and exploring are just a few of the activities that fill David’s outside-of-entrepreneurship life. He is President of the Fernie Snowmobile Association, Vice President of the Elk Valley Land Trust, plus a keen supporter and member of many other local organizations and groups. David believes in giving back to the community that has offered him and his family such an abundant life.
Last but not least, David is the father of two other Fernie locals (born and raised). He hopes they will return to add to and help shape the Elk Valley after their post-secondary life adventures.
